CD8+ T cells (red) and Ly6g+ neutrophils (white) infiltrate the lamina propria of the small intestine of mice after 4 days of parasitic helminth infection during which the helminth is embedded within the submucosa. The exact function of these cells are unknown, but our lab hypothesizes that they contribute to a tissue repair response that allows for the helminth to persist asymptomatically in the host.
